The War in Ukraine started in 2014, and continues to bring death and devastation. More than 14,000 civilians have been killed (over 500 of them being children) and more than 20,000 injured, not counting military losses that most likely quadruple this number. Since the Russian invasion in February 24, 2022, it is estimated that 1 million people on both sides have been either killed or injured. Close to 7 million Ukrainians became refugees and fled the country, while close to 4 million people became internally displaced within Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has been the fastest growing and largest displacement crisis in Europe since World War II.

Mulberry International has been providing for physical, emotional and spiritual needs of orphans and families in Ukraine since 1997. When the war started in 2014, Mulberry expanded its ministry to include internally displaced families and refugees. Since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Mulberry International has been providing life-saving resources to thousands of Ukrainians. They partner with local churches and volunteers to share the Hope of Christ for those who have lost all hope and show God’s love through action.

Meet our missionary | Natasha Reimer | Executive Director

Natasha Reimer was born and raised in Ukraine. She moved to the U.S. in 1997 and now lives in Louisville, KY with her husband and two children, where they are members of Southeast Christian Church. She has been serving with Mulberry International for fifteen years.  She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Kentucky Christian University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.

 

Mount Carmel Christian Church has been partnering with Natasha and Mulberry International for many years.  Since the start of the war in Ukraine, many things have changed, and there are now many orphans, widows, and displaced families that do not have a home to go back to.

The Bible says the following in the book of James:

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress… James 1:27

There are so many needs around us that sometimes we think to ourselves, “I wish I could do more to help,” and even then, the need will not go away.  Jesus wants us to be generous in giving, and especially to those who are most vulnerable.  The war in Ukraine continues to kill and displace people throughout the country, and the need is not going away.  

How can I Pray for the Ukrainians?

If you are feeling led, pray for the Ukrainian people. Please consider praying for the following:

  1. Pray that hat God would provide the necessary funds for the Summer Camps and the Back-to- School support.
  2. Pray for all the children at the orphanage in Germany that God would comfort them and let them know that they are loved. As well as all the workers that daily attend to their needs.
  3. Pray that the churches in Ukraine would continue to grow, and for their pastors to be encouraged and know that others are praying for them.
  4. Pray for the collection of firewood as it begins once again in preparation for this upcoming winter.
  5. Pray for peace in Ukraine, and that the war may soon come to an end so that people can return to their homes and begin the re-building efforts.

Specific prayer requests for the ministry:

  1. New outreach to women at risk (survivors of domestic abuse. The shelter started receiving these women last month. Pray for changed hearts and healing.
  2. Mission trip to Good Samaritan Children’s Home: A team of 13 will conduct a summer camp for the children’s home evacuated to Germany.

Winter may feel far away, but for families in Ukraine, preparation starts now. Firewood isn’t something you can buy when the cold hits, it has to be cut, stacked, and dried months in advance. 

 $400 will provide a multi-generational family with enough firewood to last from October 2026 through April 2027.
