Peace of mind; what is that? Is it some unattainable pursuit? Is it like happiness; here today, and gone tomorrow? Is it even something we can achieve on our own? We certainly all long for it. It’s what some think will come if they can just get rich enough, thin enough, smart enough, pretty/handsome enough, or loved enough. If only it were that simple.
Psychologist and author Jennifer L. Taitz says, “Peace of mind isn’t life feeling easy. It’s knowing you can cope regardless of what shows up in your life.” The only way I know how to do that is to recognize Jesus is always at my side, ready to help me by providing whatever is needed.
Romans 8:26 NIV: “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes.”
I can be, and have been in the midst of a problem bigger than myself. It is always due to my thinking errors. In other words, thinking more of myself than I should. When I recognize I have too quickly moved beyond my capacity, I confess it, and He brings peace of mind and truth to the situation, plus all that is needed to resolve the problem.
2 Timothy 1L7 NIV: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
His abundant love, compassionate understanding, and Fatherly discipline are all the essential elements of true peace of mind. Did you ever search, and search, and search for something when it was right there all along?
John 14:27 NKJV: “My peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Only God gives lasting peace. Reaching for anything else is not wisdom.
