Mount Carmel Family,
We wanted to take a moment to update you on the developing plans regarding disaster relief efforts, specifically in North Carolina, just west of Asheville. Earlier this week, Lou and Tracy Gordon, faithful members of our church, approached us with a heartfelt desire and a well-organized plan to deliver much-needed supplies to those affected in the disaster area.
Lou and Tracy, both military veterans, have been in direct contact with their military connections in Candler, NC, an area that has yet to receive federal aid. The situation is dire, and they estimate that 500-1,000 people from the community are still unaccounted for. Early Friday morning, Lou and Tracy will head down to the area, bringing essential supplies and returning shortly after.
Yesterday, Tim Pride (Campus Manager) and Aaron Adams (Discipleship Minister) met Lou at Sam’s Club to help purchase and load a large number of vital items such as water, high-protein canned meats (chicken and tuna), baby wipes, and instant coffee.
Once Lou and Tracy return, we will meet with them to evaluate the trip and adjust our plans for any future relief efforts. We are considering a second trip in about a month, involving well-equipped members from Mount Carmel to transport additional supplies. As we gain a clearer understanding of the needs and set dates for future “aid drops,” we will also explore ways to involve our congregation more, including potential donation opportunities.
This effort is a direct reflection of Mount Carmel’s generous spirit and the dedication of its members, who have felt God’s call to step in and serve. We’ve already seen overwhelming support from the local community and even from strangers at Sam’s Club who were eager to contribute to the cause when they heard where the supplies were going.
Please join us in prayer for Lou and Tracy as they travel this weekend, for their safety, and for the supplies to reach those in desperate need. They have named this mission “Operation Carmel Drop.”
We will keep you updated with any future plans. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
