In October, we will be teaching a sermon series called Allegiance. We are familiar with pledging allegiance to our country and the flag. But as Christians we are called to a greater allegiance, to follow Jesus, the King of Kings.

This sermon series will focus on what the Bible teaches about government.

It is our hope and prayer to provide clarity on how to answer the questions:
As a Christian, how am I to act as a citizen of heaven who is a citizen of the United States? How should I vote?
Is Jesus even interested in politics?
What do I do when the government is clearly corrupt and politics that are obviously dirty?

The primary passages of scripture we are going to look at are all from the New Testament: Romans 13:1-7,1 Peter 2:13-17, Titus 3:1-2, and Matthew 22:15-22. I encourage you to take note of those passages and begin reading and studying them in preparation for this series.

Here are our planned sermon titles:
October 6 – Government is God’s idea.
October 13 – Government is to be an instrument of justice.
October 20 – Government is to be the protector of the innocent and good.
October 27 – Government is to provide peace in order for her people to thrive.

In Chronicles 12:32, the men of the tribe of Issachar were described as “men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do…” These are critical times.
We cannot bury our heads in the sand.
We cannot be asleep.
We cannot shrink back into our holy huddles.
We need to be a people who understand the times and know what to do.

The wisdom to understand our time and do what is right can only come from God.

I encourage you to join us as we seek God’s wisdom from His Word in order to do what is right.
