Northern Kentucky University is home to over 16,000 students amongst its various majors, only 1.3% of which are consistently engaged with the Gospel—that is less than 200 students in total! To some, this may come as a surprise; to others, this may put numbers to a reality already observed and felt. Whichever is accurate, the dilemma is the same: the church is losing this next generation, and it is happening on college campuses. Thankfully, students are adamantly searching for truth, purpose, and direction—all found in Christ Himself. This is why Ignite the Norse exists.

Ignite the Norse is a new campus ministry at Northern Kentucky University dedicated to helping students take their first or next step with Jesus. This is accomplished with a proactive approach to campus ministry, consistently engaging students at NKU with the Gospel through worship, discipleship and local church connection.

Worship:

For the first time at NKU, Ignite the Norse is facilitating weekly worship events in the Student Union, providing the context for students to engage in the Christian community, praise God, and hear the Gospel message. For many, this will be their first time!

Discipleship:

In addition to worship, students will have the opportunity to engage in a discipleship group tailored to their walk with Christ—whether students are mature Christians or exploring the Gospel for the first time, there is a group intentionally designed to help them take their first or next step with Jesus.

Local Church Connection:

Incredibly, 80% of NKU graduates remain local to Northern Kentucky. Given this reality, one of the most significant facets of Ignite’s approach to ministry is connecting students with local churches. Through Ignite the Norse, students are introduced to the Gospel, equipped as disciples, and connected with local churches during and after their time at NKU. These students are the future of the Church, and Ignite the Norse teaches and equips them to be part of a church family, function long-term as members of the Body of Christ, and have a lifelong relationship with Jesus. 

Ignite the Norse is answering God’s call to serve NKU, and you can join us as we bring the Gospel to students in desperate need of it. Simple ways to get involved include: Becoming a prayer partner, volunteering with Ignite, and partnering financially.
