The last couple of weeks have been challenging. As a church family, community, and our Mount Carmel Kids team, we’ve been heartbroken for 3 little lives taken too soon. However, friends, I need to share that our leaders in Mount Carmel Kids are absolutely amazing. We’ve shared hugs, tears, and prayer. Lots of prayer.
Many of you know by now that we’ve expanded our VBS program from a typical 3-4 night program to encompass our whole summer. We’re all feeling the kids’ excitement as they come in each week wearing their little blue shirts in a sea of the adults in their maroon shirts. A shift in our typical morning programming has meant additional leaders, changes in our editing, new worship songs and a general overhaul in our Sunday morning rhythm.
It’s no surprise to me that our leaders have stepped up! Several of them are serving more frequently, teaching Bible 4 times on a Sunday morning, stepping out of their normal role in the classroom to lead a ‘belt of truth’ game outside with flag football belts. Two Sundays ago, I needed an additional leader for our 2’s class and posted the need on our leader Facebook page. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that within 3 minutes, I had 3 leaders say they could do it. These are extraordinary people.
It is in moments like this that I’m reminded of His goodness and constant presence. As we gather each week for our team huddle, I see His goodness; His kindness. I see leaders giving of their time and energy to make a difference in a child’s life. It’s in a season like this that we’re reminded that those high-fives and smiles matter. Providing an exciting environment that screams the love of Jesus matters.
“Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. May the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, bless you from Zion.” Psalm 134 – NIV
I pray for you, Mount Carmel friends, that you lift your head to heaven this week. Feel the warmth of His love and know that He is good in every season.
With joy,
Lisa
